Beluga Whales in Turnagain Arm

We were excited to be able to catch a somewhat rare viewing of Beluga whales in the Turnagain Arm during the high tides. We even got to hear one of them sing. Beluga whales are so vocal they are called "sea canaries". It was extemely cool. Although they swam within about 200 to 300 yards of us, they were very hard to really see well on film. So, look past Aimie's head.....see that white dot?.....YUP!!!!... a real live Beluga cruising by. Its just one of those things you have to witness in person, so you guys gotta get up here!!!!!



Belugas are pretty small whales, typically only about 15 ft. long, about the same size as dolphins, and they are solid white. They aren't pretty creatures, with bulbous faces and shapeless bodies, but they live in Arctic and sub-Arctic waters so aren't really observed in too many places. Here you can see TWO white dots....two whales swimming by...Alaska rocks!!
